About This Place

Located at 1535 University Blvd N in Jacksonville, FL, Donut Shoppe is a beloved local treasure for anyone with a sweet tooth and a penchant for classic, freshly made donuts. Specializing in yeast-raised and cake donuts, this dessert shop effortlessly blends old-school charm with mouthwatering quality that keeps people coming back time and again.

This humble yet vibrant spot offers an impressive array of donuts that satisfy a wide range of flavor cravings. Signature menu items like their Uglies Apple Fritters boast a perfectly crunchy exterior that gives way to a tender, fruity center, a texture and taste combination many customers rave about. Whether you lean toward the smooth and luscious Bavarian Cream Filled, the zing of a Lemon Filled, or savor the wholesome goodness of a Blueberry Cake donut studded with real blueberries, Donut Shoppe covers all bases expertly.

For those who love a little nostalgia, the shop’s Chocolate Frosted Glaze and Cinnamon Twirls evoke comforting memories of classic donut flavors done right. Seasonal options like the Pumpkin Cake offer a delightful nod to the time of year, while custom orders such as the Giant Donut Cake and Custom Wedding Cakes showcase their versatility and commitment to celebrating life’s sweetest moments.

But beyond the flavors, it’s the experience and community connection that truly elevates Donut Shoppe. Opening bright and early at 5 a.m., the shop captures the spirit of dedication—not just in their hours but in the craft. Patrons often enjoy watching the donut-making process through the shop’s back window, adding an authentic, behind-the-scenes charm that makes each visit feel special and genuine.

Customers consistently praise the Donut Shoppe for its warm and friendly staff, which enhances the inviting atmosphere and complements the fresh-baked aromas filling the air. For many like Michael Rogers, their treats have become part of community celebrations, appreciated by groups like the Clay Charter Academy staff. Giorgio Christopherryan’s testimony about purposely adjusting his work schedule just to bring in these beloved donuts for his crew speaks volumes about the shop’s quality and reputation.

While the shop operates on a cash-only basis—which some might see as old-fashioned—it adds to the authentic, no-frills vibe that defines the Donut Shoppe’s identity. Thankfully, an ATM inside makes this easy to navigate. As Mandy K highlights, these donuts are a perfect example of “simple done right,” and Hannah Ko’s love for the “indulgent and delicious” textures of the apple fritters confirms the shop’s skill in delivering consistent, crave-worthy treats.

Whether you’re an early riser like Sean Varney, who appreciates the 5 a.m. opening time and old-school vibe, or simply searching for a dependable spot to satisfy a sweet craving, Donut Shoppe offers rich, flavorful donuts that feel lovingly handcrafted and deeply satisfying.

At Donut Shoppe, every bite tells a story of tradition, community, and exceptional taste. It's a Jacksonville gem that promises more than just donuts—it offers an experience worth repeating.

The faculty and staff of Clay Charter Academy enjoyed sweet treats from the Donut Shoppe in celebration of its upcoming 2025 winter break! And they were absolutely delicious. Thank you!

People go out of there way to get donuts from here. Luckily I live out this way. I will intentionally go into work an hour late, and then work an hour over to make it up just to be able to bring in donuts for my crew from here. They take cash only, but have an atm inside. Also if the cost is 15 dollars... Its 15 dollars. No adding up the taxes and all. Its all in the total already. Fast friendly service and their "uglies" apple uglies (apple fritters) are to die for. Take my word for it, or just let your taste buds be the judge.

Old school donuts that do not disappoint! The definition of simple done right. Highly recommend you try them all, especially the uglies (apple fritters-my favorite). Keep in mind they are cash only.

Visited for the first time and got an ugly apple fritter. The crunchiness of the outside paired with the softness on the inside made it an indulgent and delicious treat! The staff I interacted with was so warm and friendly, which was the cherry on top. Looking forward to trying the other selections the next time I'm back. As all other reviews have said, bring cash!

I stopped by The Donut Shoppe early this morning to grab a couple dozen for the work crew and was blown away. This place opens at 5:00 a.m., which is perfect for anyone who starts their day early like I do. It has that awesome old-school vibe, while you're ordering, you can look through the window and watch them making fresh donuts right there in the back. It doesn’t get better than that! The guy at the counter was super friendly and chatty, which made the experience even better. Just a heads-up: it's cash only, but they do have an ATM on-site if you forget. These donuts were a hit, and I’ll definitely be coming back, probably more often than I should!

This has always been our favorite go-to donut shop for 40+ years, but as much as it pains me to say this, we are a little disappointed in the last few visits. The taste is still the best, but they have shrank the size to about half what they used to be. A dozen donuts looks like half in the box. I know times are tough, but when the price goes up and size goes way down, it's getting tough to justify. Please go back to your normal size donuts.

Donuts and people were great. The ugly apple fritter was OUTSTANDING! However - we went to check out and didn't realize it's CASH ONLY! No worries though... they have an ATM.
